Ivor's Traditional Fish and Chips - Thurnscoe
By pooling their energies and re-opening a once thriving fish and chip shop, seven friends have reinstated a favourite place to eat and returned a sense of pride to Thurnscoe in Barnsley, South Yorkshire.
Sixty years ago when Ivor Husband first opened his fish and chip shop in the small village of Thurnscoe in Barnsley, it was a thriving business feeding the hoards of hungry miners working at the nearby coalfields.
But with the pits long gone, jobs and investment remaining scarce and two generations of Husbands having retired, four years ago Ivor’s was sold and reopened as a curry house. Not what the local community wanted, it only survived a year before it closed down and fell derelict.
With the memory of Ivor’s remaining ingrained in the local community, 18 months ago three couples – Jonathan and Karen Roebuck, Steve and Julie Roebuck and Graham and Dawn Asquith – came forward to reinstate the busy chippy back to its former glory.
Ivor’s opted for three pan counter range with built in filtration with ECO burners.
